Recommendation for a carpenter
#1
I contacted JM Minica (AKA Mark) last weekend to perform some extensive reconstruction work on some trusses in my carport.
Mark is a very professional carpenter.
After my call he came out the next day to look at the job.
I had an estimate the following day. (Detailed)
Scheduled the work the next weekend.
He came on time, stayed late and had to come back on Sunday to finish.
He has a lot of equipment and it’s all in good working order.
He left me the unused material.
His worker was very polite.
It was extremely hot up in the roof area and he never complained. (Oh, one time)
This project included jacking the roof on both sides to change out the ridge beam.
When estimating a reconstruction project many times there are unknowns. Not that we found many he was required to do a bit more work then I feel he estimated. At the end of the project he didn’t ask for more money for the additional reinforcements.
I recommend Mark for any construction projects from new to remodeling.
If you need a reference please call me at 960-6855.

Wow Scott! I really appreciate the kind post! Word of mouth is the only way the "little guys" like me can continue to make a living over here. I appreciate the opportunity to help you on your project, and thank you for taking the time to write this post.

Mark

Here is a contractor to stay away from: We had very bad experience with Kent Aho and his wife Taylor Aho. He does not understand building codes and screwed up almost everything on our footings and the first floor walls. And we are not talking about his psycho mental attitude he brought with him from Alaska. It took our general contractor two weeks to correct the faux-pases he caused.

Anyone have experience putting up a quonset hut?
Any folks you can refer that might be able to assemble?

If you have a set of engineer approved plans, and an experienced builder/carpenter who can read those plans(suprisingly there are alot of "builders" who aren't very good at interpreting plans), it's a piece of cake. I've never built a quonset hut, but I've built everything from homes to 500 million dollar football stadiums. So I'm thinking a quonset hut wouldn't be a problem. Just try and get references on anyone that you want to hire to do work for you, there's alot of shifty characters in the construction biz around here.
Aloha,
Mark

Mark, do you have experience with single-wall construction? We will be building a small home and need a carpenter who knows how to build single wall to code. Thanks!

I'm also looking forward to working with Mark on my house in Seaview. When I was there in September getting bids, he was professional, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable going with him. The references he provided were impeccable too. Can't wait to get started in January.
