We just added a post to our blog which lists our costs to build our small (1-bedroom, 1-bath, 600 sq. ft. living space and 400 sq. ft. lanai, plus 600 sq. ft. of developable space on the lower level....we're on post and pier, up 8 feet from the ground) house in Eden Roc. So many folks have asked us about the particulars of costs for certain items, we thought it would be helpful to list all that we know so far. Hope this helps. The blog site is
www.moonoverhawaii.blogspot.com. We're happy to answer questions...just passing along the aloha we have been given already...

You need to remove the "period" after the word "com".

Katie, love your bird house in the sky! LOL
So will you be observing stars and birds, or what so high up there? Personally I'd be thinking of a bucket to get the groceries in! LOL Thanks for sharing!

Wow!!! That's tremendously helpful for someone just beginning the process like me. There is hope, after all.

Hey Buzz, sorry to take so long to reply! We are totally thrilled with our builder, Marlon Ordonez...Island Home Builders, phone 808-283-3467. He has been incredibly fast in building this house, and yet, the quality is outstanding. We're getting ready to post some more photos tomorrow to show some of his detail work, and I think his cost has been extremely fair. He's also incredibly helpful, and thorough, and detail-oriented. I can't say enough good things about him...honest, extremely hardworking, very communicative....this has been such a sweet experience thus far, no horror stories. Well, except for the guys who ripped our lot and talked us into using them to do the cesspool.....DON'T DO THAT. Hire a licensed cesspool digger!!! We are STILL trying to get the thing signed off. And that was totally David's and my fault, because Marlon had a licensed guy all lined up for us, but we thought - oh, what the hey, the rippers are here, they have the equipment already on site, they're hungry for the job, this will be great. WRONG. Anyhow....the rest of the job has been beautiful, as we've listened to Marlon and hired folks he knows are good - plumber, electrician, even the person who helped us get the blueprints done and architect signed off, and permits ordered.... it's been a dream project, and we're sooooo lucky, and we know it! If there are any further questions, you can contact me via email: moon_over_hawaii@yahoo.com and I'll be happy to answer questions. (I haven't yet figured out how to respond via email to folks on Punaweb??????)
Katie and David.........Oh, and thanks for all the other comments! Mella, a dumbwaiter would be a grand idea for the groceries, but I keep thinking those stairs will keep me in shape! Altho after a 6-mile hike in the volcano park this morning, I'm wondering if we shouldn't already be thinking RAMP.....LOL!! See you soon! Katie
