I need to break up some lava in order to plant plumeria. I have not had any luck with the tools I have. Any ideas?

Persistance and an o'o bar.
A D9 with a ripper on the back.
Pile up lava rocks to make above ground planters to put the plumeria in.
Hire someone else to do it.
