Our visit to the BI is approaching soon. The goal is to explore as much of the island as we can to see which area would be right for us. We would really love to have property upcountry maybe 1500ft and up with a beautiful mountain view of either Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa. We’re hoping some of the real estate pros can give us the names of subdivision’s/towns to concentrate our search.

Its funny but the way the land is here, there's no specific subdivisions with ocean or mountain views. For example, there are parts of Fern Acres and Hawaiian Acres with ocean views but not the rest of those subdivisions. Parts of Hawaiian Paradise Park has views of Mauna Kea but not all. Like so many things, its literally street-by-street dependent.

One of the most memorable sight I ever had was driving out from Mauna Loa Estates and seeing the snow-capped peaks of both Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea on a clear day. However, the elevation there is close to 4,000'.

Even parts of Leilani (the burned over area between Kaupili and Makamae Sts.) has some knockout mountain views.

And, of course Mountain View, which has some properties with Mauna Loa & Kea views (on the rare clear days) and is in the 1500' range.

Oh-oh, almost feeling embarassed here at 1100 ft - ocean view everyday (unless fogged in) and mountain view many days, but not usually all day. (grin)

Aloha Dave! Just wanted to add my 2 cents...on our drive up-country on the way to the "other" side, I thought about ya on our way past your neck-o-the-woods...that view was absolutely gobsmackingly pretty! We took the 4 mile "scenic route" past the falls also and were wowed by that little road as well.

On clear mornings (quite frequent this early summer), I'll go to the back end of Wright Rd. in Volcano and can see "Maunas Kea and Loa" whilst standing on Kilauea. I can't see that from my yard, but that's never been important to me.
From Volcano Hwy, just a few feet uphill from the 15-mile marker, the roadside trees on the mauka side have been cut away and you can seen both peaks during clear moments.
