Does anyone know where I can purchase a Mac Nut tree for my property? I had one for 15 years and it finally died. I tried all the local plant stores in Hilo and in HPP and no one carries them.

We've been looking all over too with no luck. You can get macadamia seeds locally from Oscar at fruitlovers.com

Macuu, Steve and Regina,
Looks like you may be able to get a fresh nut and scarify it and then plant it, if you are willing to wait the extra time for growth of the tree. Don't know if they come true this way or not. You would be able to find out though doing a search on propagation of the mac nut trees. Lucy Having another Great day in Paradise, Wherever that Maybe! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheLanai

Here's a thought...
My grandparents's farm on Kona side had some mac nut trees. Maybe there are some keikis around that could be dug up? I wouldn't mind a couple either, though I do wonder if they need to be higher in elevation than our lot (HPP 3rd and Maku'u). If you want to do a little research on whether transplanting is feasible, I'll take a hike up to the farm and see if there are any trees. I'll be there to start my new teaching job in late July but will have weekends. Let me know! Linda in CO, not for much longer! mountainwoodcraft@yahoo.com |
