Thinking of buying land in Mt View

We are thinking of buying land in Mt View and was wondering if there is anything I might need to know that maybe only a local would know Ive been researching it for awhile now but im sure theres alot im missing Thanks

hello treeman. yes mt. view is a large area but in general on the west side of the belt has deep soil and alot of rain and on the east side of the belt is more rock and somewhat drier. the closer you get to the volcanic vents you get a bit more vog but in general we are vog free and lava zone 3. i have been in the house we built for almost 30 years and at the time could have bought anywhere on this island as the prices were cheap everywhere. but it is finially getting a bit too crowded for my tastes so we are building a new place on acreage. so where did we decide to go this time.... yep, another part of Mt. View. this is paradise to me at the cool elevation where almost everything grows.[]

I would say that Mountainview has a higher percentage of long time residents than the newer subdivisions of Puna. It was and is farmland, whereas HPP and Orchidland and so forth were not considered good ag land when the subdivisions were created.

This is not a fact only a local would know, but when we have record rainfall, Mountainview is often the community that makes the TV news with the most impressive numbers. So you need to be ready for a lot of rain going in, with the benefits that lquade mentions of how well everything grows.

WWOOFing is a good vacation/transitory sort of thing since it doesn't really provide 100% of your living needs long term. Usually they will give you a meal and a spot to sleep/camp in exchange for several hours worth of work. Each position is different but there seem to be quite a few to pick and choose between. Usually there is plenty of time left over to search out a better position or a new place to live.
