Huli Huli Chichen Today

Huli Huli chicken today

OK today is the day for the start up of my new Huli Huli chicken grill. It’s a beautiful Grill and it’s state of the art. You can check it out on my web site. I’ll be selling Huli Huli on highway #130 in Keaau at the bottle neck. My Huli Huli chickens are all the 3 lb. plus size not the little 2 lb that you see in the stores. Today’s price is $9.00 for a whole chicken and they are Huli Huli good.[:p] [:p] [:p]

Great work on the new grill--looks like a winner. I realize that you'll probably be easy to spot, but for everyone's edification, just where will you set up?

The Huli grill is set up right across from the Keaau Humane Society...

Right where that one bruddah sells all the ahi and smoked fish...

Just passed by and they are heating the Huli up...

Carrie,
You bet we had a great day, and could have sold twice the ckickens that we had. Next week we won't have to turn the good people of Puna down for not having them ready.

Thank you Puna, you are the best you all made it worth while, love you all.

I sure wish people could find a better place for roadside vending. I drive the "bottleneck" every single week day and the presence of roadside vendors makes a bad merging area much worse. I know that every time there is someone vending it will take me twice as long to get through that spot. The funny thing is I would buy either the chicken, or the corn when the other guy has it, if the traffic weren't so godawful that once I get past the bottleneck I don't want to even think about pulling over.

As a formerly self employed person I understand the desire to make an honest buck, but every single driver pays your rent with an even slower commute home from their jobs.

I was actually thinking the opposite. I enjoyed the wafting scent of BBQ as I inched past yesterday (no different from non Huli days), and thought that they were smart to be set back where the easement was large enough to support multiple cars pulling off the highway. At the point I went past them I was only doing about 10-15mph and I do not believe it was due to the Huli Huli chicken.

But MHO only - something different may have transpired when you went past, Carol.

It isn't just the chicken, it is the very presence of a roadside attraction that slows the traffic flow, because it is an already messed up bottleneck the vending makes it worse. I go through there 10 times a week minimum, and if there is a roadside vendor the traffic backs up farther and the merge gets even slower. I can tell when there will be someone set up there, before I even see them, by the way the traffic flows. From a vendor's perspective it is a perfect place BECAUSE people are slowed down and there is room for cars to pull over, but from a commuter perspective they just make a bad situation worse. It is just human nature to slow down even more and look at whatever is going on along the side of the road, but that spot is right where the congestion should start to ease instead of slowing down even more. Plus, I've had drivers in front of me suddenly slam on their brakes when they finally decide to pull over, which is kind of hazardous. It doesn't ruin my day when vendors are set up there, I just wish they could find a better spot that doesn't add to the congestion.

I was kind of surprised that Tom set up that cooker right under the power lines though, that baby must crank some serious BTUs and I personally wouldn't want to set it up under power lines.
