"...Everything and I mean down to all my sockets, wrenches, etc is engraved with our name and an ID number. ..."

I have done that too - sort of....what I wonder is if you decide to sell something that you had engraved.

A good $1000 alarm still being one of the best investments one can make in personal safety

I also have two gates on the drive, the first lets you into the compound. There is another chain gate 150 feet up the drive 200 feet south of the main house. Im the only one with a key to that one. The lock being line of sight from my kitchen window.

There is no place to turn at the second gate ..... car comes up there - he belongs to me for at least the next few minutes as they frantically back up as I approach with a questioning look and an O' O' bar- word gets out - grin

It also makes for a car free zone around the house ... good secure feeling as we have kids next door that like to wander by

aloha

edit spelling - felling /feeling

Last month during our property search a resident of Fern Acres came out of her house to see who we were and why we were sitting by the side of the road on her street.
I'm sure her barking dogs got her attention.
She was really nice when we explained why we were there. We were equally pleased that she came out to ask. Though we didnt purchase the lot in Fern Acres the neighborly inquiry and exchange of names kept Fern Acres on the list of subdivision choices.

If I sell anything that is engraved, I provide an itemized bill of sale, then remove the items from our household inventory disk.

HPP Neighborhood Watch has provided free use of engravers to HPP residents since July 1 of this year. A $25 refundable deposit is required, and we provide the engravers, instructions, and a master list sheet for recording the valuables. These are available at the HPPOA Office during regular business hours.

I have a friend who had items regularly go "missing" for years from his property and shop even though he's always had dogs. He usually suspected the neighbors as there were many young men going in and out of the house at all hours of the day and night. There were also fights and drugs. These people moved in after he built his house. The day he got his 7' cyclone fencing installed his buglaries stopped. And his dogs are so happy because they don't have to be tied up anymore.
