My family and I are looking to relocate to the Puna area
of the BI. I was wondering if there was much for dirt bike
riding available on the island. Any help would be great.

There are some off road trails, esp. up off Stainback Rd, and many of the unpaved roads are more like off road trails than roads.
Most people appreciate the off road riders that are courteous, and there are many, but there are those that give off-roading a less than stellar reputation. (eta - this is to explain that there are some people that do not want any off-roading here.... but there are many that use dirt bikes as their soul means of egress from their property...)

Thanks Carey. My family and I are respectful riders. I have done many Google
searches on the topic, but not had much luck finding information. I understand
that there is a track in Hilo but we are more into trail riding.
Thanks Again

Ask these guys in Kona. They know where the trails are.

Good news is that you can ride around on lotsa roads here with nary a problem. Understand that lots of roads here are dirt and have enough washouts and potholes to qualify as dirt tracks.
bad news is aside from the stainback track, there aren't any offical dirtbike trails. mana road up the volcano is quite extensive and a good rutty dirt trail, the roads down in ka'u near the green sand beach are practilly stunt courses and there are tons of hunting roads that are filled with pits, moats, and three foot deep puddles. but if you want a single track, dirt trail that you can go some disance on....
most of lower puna is really rough lava (think concrete rubble) or impenetreable jungle. not much soil in most of our locals. Kona has more hard pack dirt trails, but probably a lot more enforcement too. best thing to do is find a friend with acreage and their own bikes. dual sports have an advantage, but i understand that most dual sports compromise their offroad nimbleness in road usability. if you're willing to trailer your rides, you shouldn't have much problem, give me a call or drop a note when you get here, i'll point you in some specific directions.

Just a hand full of trails, not a great place to ride.
