Brush trimmer Carbide Blades
#1
I just wanted to share my experiences with using a carbide blade on my weed whacker vs. the expensive steel blades here in Puna on Lava.
I went through 2 steel blades after tapping them once or twice against hidden lava rocks in the brush. When back in Washington I placed an order for four 9" carbide blades and put one on my weed trimmer when we arrived back here in Puna.
I've hit countless lava rocks very hard with my first carbide blade and it has not chipped or dulled the blade as of yet, very impressive. Aside from the blade cutting through cane grass like butter, strawberry guava with a couple taps and a 6 inch tree trunk with a few more taps, these blades are well worth every penny and then some.
Just a heads up for anyone who needs a little more attached to their weed trimmer. These blades will save you time, effort and money. As per chipping a tooth and it striking you… it’s no more so possible than a sharp pebble doing the same from a steel blade slapping that pebble into you. The carbide blade scare is to trump up sales for the over priced cruddy steel blades that they make money hand over fist for.
I got my blades from this guy over on the mainland in Washington State on eBay.

Pog. my thoughts were on that line, too.... unfortunately, I am such a klutz that even the plastic string is dangerous in my hands (While reading Kane's thread, I was actually thinking "Wow, bet that blade could slice through my leg toot sweet!)

I just buy the cheap 7" framing blades with carbide teeth and a 5/8" arbor for my weedeater. Cuts everything. Just modified the threaded end and nut to accept a cotter pin for safety.
