Stereo vs. Bose Docking Station
#1
Anyone have any information on leaving the old stereo and switching to the Bose Docking Station? I am particularly interested in the ability of the station to run six to eight external speakers wired to different rooms of the house.

Thank you for whatever information you may have. I have read some online stuff but it is pretty much Greek to me. Guess I am more electronically challenged that I knew!

If you have broadband at your home, another option to look at is a Sonos system..it lets you access your entire iTunes and digital music system, web-based services like Pandora and last.fm, Sirius (via internet), and any radio station that streams music online. You plug one box into your router, which starts its own sonos wireless network, and then you can use either a stand-alone sonos speaker/amp booombox, a sonos box that you plug speakers into, or a sonos box that plugs into your exisiting stereo. You control the whole system from your iphone, ipod touch, computer desktop or a sonos controller. You can add numerous boxes to bring music everywhere in your house and yard, and all boxes can be playing different music, or you can group boxes together and play the same music simultaneously in numerous rooms. It's not cheap, but it is incredibly easy to operate, sounds great, and avoids the hassle of wires running all over your house. www.sonos.com for more info.

sounds interesting... but we ran all the speaker wires in the walls when we built so that is not an issue.

We have the Bose docking station, and one for our TV too... but they do not have external speaker connections. So, as far as I know, we need one for each room.

Actually a simple computer speaker system works well with an iPod and if you have one with a sub woofer, the sound is darn good. We found this out by accident when we moved here.
