ANTHONY MARZI ANNOUNCES HE WILL CHALLENGE HANOHANO
PAHOA – Anthony Marzi (D) today announced his intention to run for the District Four (Puna) seat in Hawaii’s State House of Representatives.
In explaining his decision to run against Democratic incumbent Faye Hanohano, Marzi said “I firmly believe we must reclaim ownership of our community and way of life. We need to change the expectations we have for our elected officials.”
In 2008, Marzi, 23 at the time, received the second highest number of votes in the District Four race.
Marzi, a software engineer, was raised in Puna and graduated from the University of Hawaii at Hilo with a degree in Computer Science. Marzi spent two years as an educational assistant and technical resource for the Hawai'i Department of Education while earning professional certifications in database administration, geographic information systems, AutoCAD, and IT support.
At the age of 20, Marzi was selected by the prestigious Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to work to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons. In 2006, he worked as an emergency management consultant for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Additionally, through a position at the Naval Research Laboratory, Marzi has traveled the world, worked on an award-winning project, and headed database management for a multi-million dollar project.
Marzi has said “My experience, while increasing my global perspective and exposing me to new and innovative technologies, was a constant reminder that so many residents who genuinely love Hawaii are forced to leave the islands for their careers or families. The desire to rebuild a Puna where the produce, talent, and solutions are homegrown has led me to again run for the House District Four seat in the 2010 election.”
