Keaau-Pahoa HI130

Aloha All!

I attended the Action Committee meeting today in Keaau. The guest speaker was Cheryl Soon, project manager for SSFM. She gave us an update on the Environmental Study for the Keaau-Pahoa Road. It was a handout with a few maps showing the different alternatives they are studying for the whole 130 project.

She discussed some of the traffic mitigation concepts they are looking at with a special interest on the 'left turn' issue. She said the problem is except for Pohaku and Shower there is no other road that aligns as an intersection. On the table for consideration of remedies are the following:

1. Traffic Signals
2. Round Abouts
3. Access Management
4. Combination of any/all

#3 would move traffic down non highway roads to a 'left turn intersection' with all other roads right turn only. When asked if the left turn intersections will have 4 way stops, traffic signals, round abouts, etc, she said it could be any.

She said if the public was okay with the plans for the Malama Market, Pahoa, Kahakai triangle the project may actually be done first.

The next public meeting is June 29th at 530 at Keaau Elementary. Their web site is www.keaau-pahoa.com [Wink]

critterlover,

Thank you for the report on the meeting. I wanted to go but simply can't go to them all.

Aloha
