hydroponic lettuce
#1
When I got back from New York the beginning weeks of March I replanted lettuce in my crazy bucket system. It too a while but this week we began to harvest and it is great! Still using the Msculin mix. Smile

hit the floor each morning, the devil says

And how is everyone and everything in New York? Mescaline mix?

My lettuce was going great then had a disturbing incident with psychotic pet sitter who trashed everything and haven't had the heart to start again but, guess now, if you can, I can ;-) Two questions (since you're my lettuce guru), do I need to somehow sterilze the buckets or is just a scrub good enough, and did you buy a mesclun mix or create your own version? Mahalo!

use it up, wear it out, make it do, do without
I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

I use household bleach to clean the buckets. I just empty them, put a half cup or so of bleach in one half filled with clean water, scrub the sides with a brush and pour it into the next one, repeat. If they are really green you might want to clean them a bit before bleaching with the scrub brush.

I buy the commercial mesclun mix. I seed generously... use one packet for six to eight buckets. I then snip leaves that are ready and let it keep coming up in each tube for a few weeks extra. Smile

Let me know how it goes...

I've read about your hydroponic lettuce classes.

I wonder, if you ever have classes again, if I could attend.

I can provide my own, or pay you for the supplies.

Thanks

Are the classes going to be scheduled again?? I'd love to that the class, too.

I'd rather be a wise ass than a dumb ass!!!

There is no formal class.... it's a 15-20 m minute demonstration. We can do it right up here at my place; I have lettuce going now and am a bout to plant some more. You guys available weekdays or only weekends? I am happy to show you what I do!

I'm available either weekdays or weekends. Just with a few days notice whenever works for you.

I recently went to the ARC over by the hospital and was able to tour their floating hydroponic lettuce and green onion greenhouses. I was AMAZED at how simple the system is. And I got 2 heads of the most delicate and delicious lettuce I've ever had. And the aroma of the onion was overwhelmingly and surprisingly not soft tissued like I expected.

Can't wait to grow my own!!

Everyone's pretty busy these days. I met a woman in Eden Roc named Karen that said she took a little 5 gallon bucket hydroponic class with a woman named Pam that lives in mt. view. Isn't this a small world. She showed me the system she uses so I've taken the class already.

Pam,

We can be available either time. Please let us know when you
might schedule the demostration. It would be good to see you again
and we have never been to your farm.
