Wao nahele kane: Your right, that is my main concern. I am worried about my wife being pulled over for something in the dark roads of this county by an impersinator. I have a baby neice that lives with me. It was not permitted before, why now.
Csgray: I am not a newcomer, been here 10 years, and came from Oahu. I know we had personal vehicles, but the ALL HAD LIGHTS before.
I dont understand why the county cannot issue to each private vehicle a light for the ROOF, and a MAGNETIC ensignma for the car doors when on active patrol.

I wasn't saying you were a newcomer, just saying it is an adjustment for newcomers. When I am directing a comment specifically to someone I usually address the post to them. The magnetic emblem is a great idea as long as no one stole them, then we would have a non cop in a marked car. It seems like there has been a switch to more internal lights, I wonder if they made that switch so officers didn't have to bother with taking them off their personal cars when off duty, or if the sedans can't take the external mount lights.

my ignorance.....so if the County recieves zero money from traffic fines where does the money go?

It goes to the State. From there it's divided into many areas with the primary being: courts, criminal justice services, state resources to county police, and the State's general fund.

One place where the cops could write a whole bunch of tickets - the one-way stretch where hwy 130 meets 137. People go the wrong way there all the time. Sometimes even where a car is coming the right way.

In Los Angeles, before we left, they were phasing in NEW police cars that had internal lights rather than the familiar lights on top. And when we got here, we quickly realized that the County of Hawaii allowed the officers here to use their POVs on duty. We assumed it was a budget issue. No big deal. And it has been my experience that every state in the union fields unmarked police cars for traffic duty, as well as marked cars. Don't break the law and you should not have a problem. Also... I wouldn't bring it up normally but it happened twice in this thread... The word is "impersonate" people...
