BOE candidates
#1
Attention Charter School Supporters:
R. Ray Hart is the only one of the 3 candidates running for the Neighbor Island seat who even comes close to supporting charter schools receiving equal funding. The other two spout the same old untrue rhetoric: Rocha-Wilson claims that charter schools segregate (she should see my classroom!), and Barry Wurst states that charters shouldn’t get equal funding because we have start up costs (which are actually not covered by the state, but by grants and donations).

This is an important BOE election, if you support Public Charter schools make sure you vote for someone who also does!

Candidates' statements can be found here:

edited to correct a really stupid spelling error.

Thank you, Carol, for this valuable piece of information. IMHO, the Hawaii BOE disgracefully shortchanges charter schools in almost every imaginable way. My cynical side thinks this is because the charters accomplish more with fewer resources than the chronically failing regular public schools and make them look bad by comparison.
