Aloha,
This belongs in the politic section of this forum, but considering that I'm a business owner and I'm building a house in Puna, and want to open a business or two in Puna when I relocate it is relevant to me. I consider myself middle class, but I've had to cut back on employees at my office and restaurants due to the economy and fears of Obama-care and taxation. I think the super rich do keep getting richer and the middle class is shrinking. And at the end of the day, I often wonder why I bother being an entrepreneur, but then i realize I can't help it... Aloha, Tony

Before you complain about "Obama Care" you better check the Hawaii state laws regarding employees and health insurance. Health care should not be a privilege of the rich.

It doesn't belong in the Politics section either, national politics are not allowed on PunaWeb. And for good reason.

Agree 100 percent Mauka, not complaining, but I do have fear of both Obama care and taxation.
As a business owner with close to 200 employees respectively, I look for every available advantage to keep my businesses open. If dealing with payroll taxes, social security, workers compensation, and health insurance are not enough, I honestly don't know with added taxation how much longer I'm willing to stay in business, much less open any new business in Puna. What Whalesong was eluding to was that increased taxation on those making a certain income may cause them not to reinvest in our economy is true, I found relevance in this especially in my case.

Reaganomics? Trickle down theory. That proved to be a huge bust. Rich people tend to keep their money tight. It takes balls to start a business no matter what the size. I've done pretty well with small businesses. Just keep then small. Work harder, but . . .

quote:And Hawaii's forced employer provided health care to anyone working 20 hours a week has created a state full of 19 hour per week employees. It works real well.

Small business is not the engine of growth that the GOP would have us all believe. As fast as those entrepreneurs start new businesses and hire a couple people, other small businesses shut down and kick their employees onto the streets. Its arguably a wash. And the deficit is real, and the money has to come from somewhere... And the upper brackets have been enjoying incredibly favorable tax rates for a decade.
