renting paddleboards?

have company coming that wants to try that stand-up paddling boards. anyone know where you rent those things? thanks![?]

Linnette, try Sun and Surf down on the bayfront. LAURIE is the owner and she has tons of stuff for rent. In fact, they have the air filled stand up boards which makes them lighter to carry (standard ones weigh over 75 lbs each)

Used to be you could go right down to the boat ramp and 'demo' them for free ... That was 'till the business partners had a falling out of sorts and one of them later was under investigation for attempting to bilk an elderly woman. The business was called WhatSup and is still there on Kilauea under a new, hiding-in-the-shadows name. I believe they are now renting.
You must rent off site and they deliver ... forgot the name of the other place in Keaukaha. Big Island paddlesports ??

In Kona go to KonaBoys right there by the pier. NOT the large one edit ( shop ) on the corner. Kona Boys @ the rental shack on the beach..

Pam, even the cheesiest, copy of an original, bondoed up and slathered with 2 pounds of paint, Chinese bombers don't weigh 75 pounds ... Not until they crack and take on water that is : )

Modern 10-12' ers are closer to 30- 40 and most now have a molded in 'handle' @ the CB making them easier to move around on terra firma.... Even the above junk.

Higher end 12'6" - 18' race boards are between 18 - 32 pounds.

Preface to below: I DO know and understand that folks just want to get "out there". But this stuff is near and dear to my heart.

Inflatables and spongers will not have the same performance and convey a sense of disconnection to the user. The cheap, bandwagon stuff always ruins it IMO as the poor performance of these products does not match or even come close what its all about and turns folks off before they get a chance to really experience why they are trying _____ thing.
