I haven't been to my lot in a few years and just received a newsletter/ballot for the Community Development HUI of Fern Forest. I was wondering if anyone who lives there could tell me how things are going? Has there been much building? Has crime gotten worse?
The newsletter said that they are trying to keep the community lot safe and have run off people who are not lot owners and apparently hangout there all hours day and night I was wondering if anyone knew any of the candidates running for the Board of Directors. You get to have 5 choices and they list only 5 people that they recommend. Also seems like there may have been problems with financial records from May until August. Any one have any info?
Thanks

we've only lived here going on 2 years so can't compare what was then to now.
we have not experienced any crime YET to our property. we do notice people walking FF who LOOK like squatters. that we cannot be sure of.
dogs are always on the loose so much so that i do not walk for exercise due to fear of safety for myself and/or my leashed dogs.
there has been some building on our street. as for the other 8000 or so acres, don't know.
roads are much more improved since moving here last year. still not paved, but improved.
don't know anything about the people running for the hui and will probably NOT join. interesting that the road maintenance invoice was already received and they asked that one send in january's payment with a post dated check.

The roads billing is sent with the annual newsletter, which includes the ballots for the annual board elections, which takes place in December. They have to pay taxes on the monies on hand at the end of the year. That is why the post-dated check. They are saving $ by not having to send an extra mailing.

They took down the covered space, bathroom and bus stop, many people were basically living there, having fires under the roof, drugging it up, trashing the place and wasting our money paying the energy bills, etc. It was definitely not the ideal use for our lot and it made many people not feel welcome there. There has been a lot of hard work to kick the pests out, both off the lot AND out of command positions. It seems it was allowed to go to hell for a couple years or so, and it was certainly not an easy thing to regain control. The bank account was in control of a previously elected treasurer or secretary and she refused to hand over funds, not recognizing the new board. Who knows what happened there or what happened to the money, or the money we sent in for road dues during that period. Goes to show that you should DEFINITELY do exactly what you're doing, get to know the people that you vote for. The previous president of the group had already been forced to step down once already years ago for the same type of bs, so I'm not even sure why he was allowed to get re-elected.
Lots of good people are moving into the area, but yes - there is plenty of more work to be done. We like it here. The dog thing is intense, for sure. As is the illegal dumping of cars and the illegal shooting of guns in the quarry. And the helicopters??? Agggg. That drives me nutty, it's so peaceful out here but then those helicopters come buzzing over 20 times a day. I know of two separate instances of animals being abandoned, one right down the road from us, several cats and a dog. More from the squatters that got kicked out of the shack near the community lot, at least 3 adult dogs, including one bitch w/ pups. I think we should charge people that do that a fine and a crime. The last thing a community needs is a pack of wild dogs. It's sketchy enough w/ the many loose dogs, but they tend to stay close to home around here... My few cents.

It should be made clear that the roads group(FFCA)and road fees have no connection with and do not fund the community lot or the hui, which owns and opperates the lot. Road fees are spent solely on roads.

Good point, DanielP. There's so many groups out here that I have a hard time keeping track! Why the heck aren't they all joined?

It never has been Daniel, my friend has owned a lot there for 20 years, nothing really changed there.

sorry, but i/we never post date checks. if the FFCA ROADS wants to save even more money, they should not include self-addressed envelopes. our maintenance fees will get to them when due: 1/1/11.
ballots already mailed.
