I shouldn't watch the news in the AM but my aunt called me that FF Allen's funeral was on TV, and a classmate of my Dad's did the opening blessing.
Last week a 38 yr veteran firefighter in LA was killed on duty. How is this Puna related? My brother had worked with Glen Allen in past years (he is with LAFD), and my brother was here on my deck helping us for two weeks when it happened so we had a few conversations about it when FF Allen was injured and then 2 days later when he died (and the day before his first grandchild was born).
We can all speak of needed budget cuts on the Big Island but lets hope the COH powers that be keep in mind the hard work all the emergency services people do for all of us. Personally I would rather see the Bldg dept take more time getting permits out if it meant a fire fighter had the newer piece of equipment they needed or it could add an extra fire fighter.
AND personally lets get out of the way when a ambulance or fire truck is barreling down the highway to save someone's life.
And on the same rant, the code in LA called for PVC sprinklers in that size home. PVC, duh, melts. Let us look at our bldg codes and not be STUPID when they are being implemented and potentially kill someone. Lets have common sense prevail instead of regulations. Let our county be smarter than the average not a sheep following behind the norm.
