Any birds here fly in formation? Just saw a flock of birds, thru my window, flying in a "V" formation, at a fairly high elevation.

I've seen Nene, ducks, and a white bird that I couldn't identify fly in formation. Wish I could be more help.

I think the white ones are the cattle egrets.
I remember learning in a biogeography class how the cattle egrets spent thousands and thousands of years in parts of Africa, then they popped up in South America in the 70s (I think), and have rapidly spread across the globe since then. It is almost like once they decided they could travel, they really went for it. Does anyone know when they hit Hawaii?

Once a flock of nene flew over my car while I was driving on highway 130. They let loose a load of crap! I had to wash my car afterwards.

Yesterday, ahead of this last front, our whole family saw a very large frigate bird circling over our home in Hawaiian Acres. It glided off to the west after about 15 mintes of circling over head. Wingspan appeared to be over 8' wide!

If you're down at the beach parks in Keaukaha in the evening, you can see wave after wave of egrets flying from Mauna Kea to Keaukaha to roost.

WOW that is a great site. I have lived here most on and off most of my life and have never seen one of these flying overhead. I'm impressed.

When I have the good luck to go horseback riding at Pa'ani Ranch in Mountain View, we usually see white birds flying in a V shape and it is a beautiful sight! They are egrets and when they're not flying they are sitting on the cattle keeping the bugs away.
