I really wanted a fireplace. I can't afford a mason to build a stone/concrete one. Retail on a wood burning stove and the "look" of them doesn't do it for me. I can't believe what propane costs, so no gas logs for me unless I want to only use it once a month. I don't need it for heat, just the ambiance.
I decided to go for the cheesy Gel fuel fireplace. But, like my foodsaver bags, buying refills is getting irritating. So, in my quest for the recipe ingredients I checked out Amazon.com for the calcium carbonate. I found 1 lb for about $9 with free shipping. As I always do, I checked locally too. I found that BEI sells a 50 lb bag for about $4. Unbelievable!
I've been using hydrated lime because its cheaper than ag lime (and also gets used quicker) to counter act the acidic soil in Mt. View. I've been paying an average of $12 for a 35 lb bag when I could have been paying $4 for a 50 lb bag.
I wonder if they sell magnesium carbonate since that's the other ingredient people look for in ag lime. I'm gonna call 'em today and ask.
