Barbara Fahs, who writes the Healthful Herbalist column in the Big Island Weekly, gives classes periodically. She also has a book out, "Super Simple Guide to Creating Hawaiian Gardens For Kama'aina and Malihini". Chapter 7, Wonderful Weeds to Encourage, will give you a lot of the info you seek.

Also, in the Hawaiiana section of the library, there is a book by Beatrice Kraus on the ethnobotany of Hawaii (don't remember title) which covers a lot of that same info and has line drawings of the plants for identification.

Another good reference is the "Hawaiian Organic Growing Guide" published by Oasis Maui, 230 Hana Hwy, #8, Kahului, Maui, 96732, 81-2634 - it may be out of print.

Good luck.
