#1
Anyone know where one can get a great Kalua Pulled Pork sandwich in Hilo? My wife is having this craving and asked me to post on Puna web so we can go there tomorrow.

Came back to edit ... Please call it what it is, PIG !!!!

"Pork" not as bad as the buzzword "protein" but its still way too to p.c. ( wimpy ) for Hawaii IMO. Save it for your mainland visitors.

It's very blue collar but Itso's on Piilani St. has a $3 Kaula sandwich which reminds me of Bill's Barbeque in Richmond, VA.
Toss on some hot sauce of your preference.

Piilani St. meets Kanoelehua near the airport road at Carpet Isle.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Itsu's was very good. And the price was right.Very generous portions. But they didn't have any sauce to put on it that I could see. I was hoping to spice it up alittle bit.

Da best way to have Kalua pulled pork is the easy one you make yourself. My solution is to get out my crockpot.Recipe is:
Pork butt
2 cups 7 up or Sierra mist
1 TBSP liquid smoke
2 TBSP sea salt

Score the pork butt or pierce with a fork all over.Rub in sea salt and liquid smoke.Cook overnight on low or about 10 hours.Guaranteed you'll smell it cooking during the night and during a bath room trip will want to sample it.[Smile]
I do one of these at least once a month.I use the Hawaiian sweet bread buns and add a little of my favorite barbecue sauce.Onolicious.
