Helco bill
#11
Update on our electric bill:
Now averages $100/month. This is down from a high of $275 and an average of $180. The only changes we made (so far) are: changed most lights to compact fluorescent and (the big one)sold the propane refrigerator that was being run on electric and bought an energy star refrigerator. What a difference! I had no idea how inefficient that propane/electric fidge was (although it's quite efficient when being run on propane).

No HELCO bill here: they wanted $3K SSPP (plus "truck roll fee", etc).

Built my first system for less than that; if I divide the cost of batteries over 5 years, my "monthly" cost for power is under $20. The rest (assuming a 25-year life) has a "monthly" cost of under $10.

Best part? No late fees/shutoff notices/unexplained surcharges.
