HI already infiltrated with Smart Meters
#1
Anyone know if it's happened here on the Big Is yet?

"One out of every three households in the US now has a smart meter. That’s 36 million and counting. The state of California just saw their nine millionth smart meter installed. But all is not lost! Opposition is growing as more and more people experience negative health effects and see their electric bills dramatically increase. Two entire states (Iowa and Conneticut) have opted to hold off on smart meter “deployment” due to all the concerns being raised. Smart meter “deployment” is industry-speak, and one can’t help but notice the obvious war reference.

Smart Meters: 100 Times More Radiation Than Cell Phone!

A favorite ploy of the Telecom industry and smart meter proponents is to compare smart meters with other radiation emitting devices, such as cell phones and microwave ovens, and say that smart meters are safe because they emit less radiation. First, this is akin to saying, “You already smoke cigars so that makes smoking cigarettes safe.” The logic is absurd. But more importantly, the one research study used in this ploy by industry proponents has been found to be flawed.

Watch this short (5 min) Youtube video of Daniel Hirsch, senior lecturer and radiation expert at the University of California Santa Cruz, explaining how the industry-funded study “compared apples and oranges” to give misleading results. When he corrected for the flaws, the study shows smart meters produce roughly 100 times more radiation than a cell phone! In addition, Hirsch voices grave concerns about cumulative and latent radiation effects that could take decades to manifest as health issues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6-hcOr-sxA

You can download Hirsch’s full report on PDF at: www.ElectroSmogPrevention.org

This same flawed, industry-funded study was part of the propaganda given to me by Jay Griffin, manager of the smart meter project on Maui, at our recent meeting. Which got me thinking, who is Jay Griffin and how did he come to be employed by the University of Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI)?

Jay Griffin Exposed

An internet search of Jay's (James P. Griffin's) background shows that he has no education or training in environmental studies or sustainability. On the contrary, before his job at UH he studied and worked at the RAND corporation, the very foundation of the global military industrial complex. At RAND he was a policy analyst and even got a PhD from them. RAND’s former Chairman of the Board was Donald Rumsfeld, responsible for authorizing torture as Defense Secretary during the Bush administration. Evidence suggests the RAND Corporation was also responsible for developing and implementing Reganomics and has received funding from the Rockefeller, Ford and Carnegie Foundations. I am not making any suggestions but invite you to do your own research and draw your own conclusions.

Compelling Video

Our recent Smart Meter Awareness meeting in Kihei was a success. We watched a 33 minute video by consulting engineer Rob States, an expert in pulsed radiation, answered questions, and discussed strategies for getting the word out. Here is a link to the video, one of the better ones out there, in my opinion. It packs in a lot of information about key aspects of the issue, all backed with research:

Spend Some Time With MOM (March on Maui)

MOM (March on Maui) is coming on Thursday, June 7 to Kihei. Sponsored by the Consciousness Rising Cooperative (CRC) the goal is to share important information in the spirit of compassion and to inspire action in honor of the earth and the islands. Starting in Kipahulu on June 4, the march runs June 4-10 at various locations on Maui. Interested people will gather at key points around the island to share information, green resources, and positive action.

The group plans to march to Monsanto in Kihei on Thursday, June 7, for a demonstration with Occupy Maui and GMO Free Maui. Since the first entrance to Maui Meadows--the hotbed of smart meter installations on Maui--is right there, we are invited to join in with sign waving and consciousness raising. Mark your calendars! For more info contact MarchOnMaui@gmail.com."

How do you know if you have a smart meter? I'm anti-GMO too. I don't even eat papaya anymore because I assume all are corrupted.

I've had a "smart meter" for just over a year now. It has made my life infinitely easier. I no longer have to keep track of meter-read days, have the gates open, or the dogs locked up. As far as I know, the meter only broadcasts to a receiver in the meter reader's truck as it goes down the road. I am sure that my power bill has dropped a pretty consistent $20 per month since installation. Not saying you're wrong, but my experience has been 180 degrees from what you describe. Aloha.

Is there any cost in getting a smart meter

No, there was no charge to me for changing meters.

liskir, by linking smart meters to Jay Griffin to Rand to Donald Rumsfeld to torture (!), you are "making...suggestions." (The idea that the use of the word "deployment" is a reference to war is also a bit wacky.) If you want your case against smart meters to be strong, you may want to try to stick to some verifiable facts rather than flying off the deep end.

I was wanting to build a stone wall but it would block the accses to the meter. going to call about getting a smart meter

Seeb,
You can also read your own meter and just send or call in the numbers. We didn't want our dogs to be used to anyone going in and out of our property when we aren't home so we arranged to do it ourselves. HELCO is very used to that.
