Aloha,
I was wondering if anyone around here has experience selling stuff at any of the local farmer's markets. When I bought my property, it came with a ton of potted plants that I don't know what to do with. While I have been to many farmer's markets, I have not personally sold anything. I was thinking of starting to sell them at the Pahoa Farmer's market. Does anyone have any experience selling at the markets and have advice? Anything I should know? Thanks!

A lot of people sell plants out of their yards by listing a time, place and what plants they have on Craigslist. I've bought plants that way, but even at the farmer's markets it really helps if the person selling the plants knows what they are and how to take care of them.

To sell at the Akebono Sunday market, just show up about 7 am and talk to Anthony at the Awa booth. He will assign you a spot. $10. You can spread the plants out over the ground or bring tables and other props to display them. Attractive merchandising increases sales. Make sure you are not transporting coqui or little fire ants. Bring a chair for yourself with a cushion. If you don't know the name of the plants, bring some ID labels and a marker and as browsers inform you, mark your plants and learn.Bring the pots pre-weeded. If you fertilize a few weeks before, they will look nicer and sell better.
I always buy plants (and books) at the Akebono market and will keep an eye out for you :-}

Cacao seedlings, christmas cactus, couple varieties of bamboo, vanilla vine, norfolk pine, cypress, plumeria, dragonfruit (I think) and some others that I am still trying to identify lol.

Tree plantation is must for sake of environment. There are many health benefits also of gardening we get fruits and fresh air also.
