Multi-Faceted Homes

It's easy enough to check with a primary source (Architect, Building department, draftsman), and even then it can vary depending on which source, but it's better to do that than to repeat things heard from the friend of a neighbor's contractor's draftsman's architect... How true!

Thats why I have Bldg Dept on speed dial, and email addresses handy. But one caveat, you may even get different answers from different Bldg Dept employees.

I once called the building department to ask a question, I forget what. I was told to read the code, or rather I was asked "Isn't that in the code?" The tone of the county representative implied that they themselves did not know the answer and were hoping to not have to deal with it. Any which way it made me seeth to think that I was paying their salary for them to sit there and be useless. Perhaps I am over-reacting but that is how I felt at the time.

Mark, ask them to put you through to someone who knows. It is their job. Sometimes you have to make them do it. Wink

I built a multifacetted Home for my wife and I.
We loved it. It was like living in a piece of art. Looking at all of the rafter coming together in the ceiling was soothing. The smell of the home was fantastic. We had to sell but there was no problem with the appraisal. Make sure that they see it as a custom built home with high end upgrades as opposed to a manufactured home.
Marketing is an issue. It is hard to visualize the house from a few photos. We developed a website with multiple views from inside and out. We included floor plans so that they had and Idea of the layout.
It worked. Guy from mainland bought it from only seeing it on the net.
I enjoyed building it. the whole process was fun and brain stimulating.
