water testing ?
#1
I would like to have our catchment water tested. I looked online for various test kits, electronic devices, etc.

Does anybody have any recommendations?

Also- I see some kits that test for "bacteria" but doesn't really specify. I know that some bacteria produce toxins but I'm equally concerned about bacteria that do not produce toxins that should be getting killed by the UV system. Dead inert bacteria do not concern me, but a test kit that doesn't differentiate between live and dead may give misleading readings. Does anybody know anything about this?

The University extension does testing. I heard DOH does also but I've never asked them personally.

I don't know about diy kits for lepto.

Ratio of Clorox Bleach to Water for Purification

2 drops of Regular Clorox Bleach per quart of water
8 drops of Regular Clorox Bleach per gallon of water
1/2 teaspoon Regular Clorox Bleach per five gallons of water
If water is cloudy, double the recommended dosages of Clorox Bleach

when in doubt - bleach it - has been my off grid mantra. Bleach is very effective and safe - Iodine works as well for stubborn bugs
