The renting of the booth is a problem as Dayna mentioned. Its an ongoing saga that refuses to get resolved.
There are some "permanent" booths and they have the luxury of arriving around 06:ish to set up. Most of them have been there for years however some for an unknown reason get a "temporary permanent booth" as they refer to it and get to pay month to month and get to have the same booth every week. There has been no rymme or reason as to why, other than politics and anybody who accepts EBT gets get some favoritism .They really push the EBT thing.
I have a friend who has had the same booth for two years because he gets there at 02:30 in a.m. to get in line. The last two weeks some newcomers have taken his space because they park on the street outside the gate on Sat night! There are a few people who sleep in the cars over night so they can get first come first serve pick.
It's not a very good system but the powers that be refuse to change or listen to new alternatives from the vendors....so it is what it is.
Other than the behind the scenes stress for the vendors (and lack of sleep for some) it's a great venue and imho one of the best markets around. The eclectic array of vendors is one of the things that make it a fun place.
