So what kind of programs exist here to rehabilitate, outreach, etc? With such a huge drug problem seems like another approach may be one solution. I know that BISAC (BISAP?)...state run substance abuse program...is one place, but that's in Hilo, and there's a lot of people out there. Is there a substance abuse program in effect in Pahoa, Rob?

Also, just an aside - Brad you know I love ya but I think we can protect ourselves without becoming "The Omega Man." LOL! (Kewl movie, though.)

Markie, maybe you had misinterpreted my earlier statement. I didn't say, "the criminal element, that is to say, Blacks..." I said "the criminal element OF Blacks..." There's a difference. There are Blacks that are fine people and not of the criminal nature. I was addressing a particular group of Blacks, namely, the criminal element. Sorry if what I said could have been misinterpreted.

Now here is a disagreement that can get out of hand. I can sense that Hilohaole may have poorly stated her point. I certainly read it originally as an insensitively phrased statement no matter what was intended. Criminal elements certainly come in all colors as do victims of crime.

Rather than continue to argue this lets just agree, if we can, to keep this topic on track.
