In my opinion (both personal and professional - developmental psychology), the Waldorf schools are the only ones that really know what to do with not only "gifted" children, but any and all children... Starting with treating them all with dignity and respect and seeing potential for each individual child, depending on each child's unique strengths or characteristics and strengthening them in mind, body, and spirit. There's both a charter and a private school on this island and the latter has an informational evening coming up on April 23rd at 6pm. I strongly urge you all to attend. It's at Malamalama Waldorf School in HPP

I would recommend the Waldorf schools as well...I don't know what your financial situation is but it couldn't hurt to check it out.

Why entrust a good mind to the state and the machinery that is school funding?
I'd keep it in house using calvert schools - that is what my grand kids are doing
Have seen calvert in action - top notch and the kids work at their own speed - my little one went through 6 years in three...... went to JC at 15 because she was emotionally not ready for a 4 year school - educationally she was........

My nieces were home schooled for most of their pre-college education. It worked out well for them. I don't recall what flavor of program my sister used.

Home schooling is only as good as the parents are willing to make it. I know young adults who got wonderful educations from homeschooling, and I know others who are functionally illiterate due to the poor job their parents did at "educating" them. Not every parent is up to the task of home schooling, and the role of parent and the role of teacher are not the same, so make sure you are truly committed before embarking on this task.
