I've recently noticed a lot of albizias with brown leaves in the Mt View area. They don't look in good shape at all. Anyone else noticed, and know what's going on?
Dying trees?

Vog is really hard on them. Now that it's raining and the wind has shifted, they'll bounce back.

The vog gets them that quickly? Wow. I'll keep an eye on them, hope they come back. I know they're albizias but you wouldn't want them falling over all over the place. Plus, they're pretty.

One of those pretty albezias fell on Leilani avenue early this morning. Power was out for most of us past pahoa for several hours. Like around Lava Tree state park many of these have gotten so big that neither HELCO or the County can seem to do anything about it.

Albizia DO fall all over the place and they don't need an excuse like high winds. Their wood is brittle and branches the diameter of most other trees get so heavy they break off and fall. They have no tap root to anchor them to the soil (soil? in Puna?). They have fallen on and destroyed homes, the pavilion in Lava Tree Park and at least one of the lava trees, and have fallen on vehicles, causing major accidents. Beauty is as beauty does. You would not be so entranced by the aesthetics of one that just fell through your roof... Your insurance company would call it an 'act of God' and let you bear the full expense. Just *#@+%^ beautiful!

the only dieing trees I see in MtView are all the Rose Apple trees that have 'rust' and are slowly dieing (naturally)
I havent noticed any albizias dieing ... where are those? that would be great if they are dieing from something natural, but it also just may be that someone skirted the trunks to kill them. ****************************************************************** save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha

I know, I know, I'm just getting sentimental. But there is something a bit unnerving about seeing brown-leaved trees all over the place for no obvious reason.
Bananahead - take a look at the top of the village, along the road and in the fields alongside.

i read recently that many koa up on the saddle road were getting eaten up by moths, and they looked like they were dying. apparently it was a natural occurrence, but particularly bad this time.
