Any of you guys got T-mobile in pahoa? I checked tmobiles site and it loos like Pahoa gets some decent connection, but when it comes to real world use, it's much better to ask people who have it, so how is it over here, particularly Leilani estates to Pahoa town.

I thought Leilani estates was planning on a cell tower? I think the carrier is verizon. The one that is planned for Hawaiian Beaches/Shores is ATT but the one in Pahoa is T-Mobile. I don't think it matters much who you are with unless you are trying to get high speed data like 4G. Maybe then you would get priority on the tower? But for talk wise it doesn't matter since all the cellphones will be roaming. Since there is no roaming fees ... No problem. My G/F uses T-mobile and I use ATT and I am assume we are pulling from the t mobile tower ... I usually get more bars than she does but it might be my phone is better at pulling in a weak signal. So... I don't think it matters but you should buy a phone that actually gets the best reception / call quality as some phones are better than others.
Good Luck!

Thanks for replying, definitely what I was looking for. As for phones I am looking for the latest and greatest, so I think I should be good with signal quality.
Once again thanks [

I thought Nanawale Estates' longhouse had a T-Mobile tower.

I've used all four and would rank them (best-to-worst) Verizon, Sprint, ATT, TMO.
Verizon has 4G/LTE just about everywhere on-island, and yes it's fast.

I have 2 phones with 2 different providers, both are prepaid. One is with T-Mobile and one with PagePlus which uses Verizon towers. Verizon towers definitely offer the best coverage in Puna.
BUT newer T-Mobile phones offer WiFi calling which means you can send and receive phone calls using any open Internet connection. Its not an app, its embedded in the phone's programing. If there is no cell phone service the phone automatically searches for and switches to the strongest open WiFi connection. Settings offer various options for its use, for example you can choose to always use WiFi if available or just if cell service is not available
My house is in a dead zone as far as cell phone service is concerned, so am thrilled I can still get calls on my T-Mobile phone at home because of this program. T-Mobile also has the most options as far as prepaid services. I'm presently using the $30 monthly option which includes 1200 minutes but only 30MB of data. Being able to automatically use my WiFi connection is a money saver as it does not deduct from minutes or data usage.
PS My TM phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2, which I love.
