Setbacks and crazy neighbors!
#21
Yeahhh, my Aloha pretty much alocated elsewhere. He doesnt want human contact, he is an arrogant fool, who wants to be heeded as a wise man, and isnt worth my time. His house if you want to call it that is on the other end of his lot. Which is good by me, the less i see of him, the happier i will be. Plus he is nuts. Mahalo everyone for the advice. We appreciate it greatly

The problem here is that this individual believes that he is king of fiefdom, and that your property is within his fief. This person will never be happy with anything that you do, so don't waste any time/resources trying to make him happy. Your only choices are to go to war or to find a way to co-exist peacefully. Don't move your catchment tank unless it needs to be replaced. He will just bitch about something else. This individual has no aloha and doesn't deserve any. As he ages it will probably get worse. Welcome to Puna, and be glad that he isn't raising roosters.

this is one of my biggest fears moving there, or anywhere. I have had both kinds of bad neighbors, people who make your life miserable by causing you problems and the other ones who constantly complain about everything you do. Sounds like you hit the bell because you got both kinds in one. I know I would be miserable in this situation. I would want to go to war, but you never know just how crazy they might be. If it were just me, it would be a war, but I have a wife and 2 little girls to think about. I feel for you.
Put up a tall fence, and when he comes over to complain about anything, tell him to stay on his own side.

comin' your way soon!

We have been fairly lucky here, both in our rental house when we first moved & the house we bought...but like ANYWHERE, one person can & did change our street... luckily for us it was a renter that moved in & many of the neighbors contacted the landowner & the renter was not here long...

That is one of the big reasons why most everyone always points to renting first.... so you can get to know the 'flavor' of a street (and here it is pretty much street by street....the subdivisions are sooo large & the streets are sooo varied....)

Even with a lot of acreage, one neighbor next door or down the street, can really ruin your experience (esp if they choose to steal your property & kill your animals).... and like anywhere, there can be some ...interesting... characters to deal with...

Unlike most areas, there is really no overall area 'filter', as land taxes are equally low in areas around the island - so there is no real economic dividing on the land taxes....just the structures on the land...and you CAN have a very questionable property next to a very upscale property because of this...the only time this is anything bad is when there is a clash of ..."personalities" because of this...

BTW - how is your move going (hopefully all is sailing smoothly!)
