permit electrical...
#1
I guess the process is...

First install your pole, then find an electrician to hook up breaker box and run wire to top of pole in conduit and run a few grounding wires... So, you pay an electrician 9XX dollars to come and do a 2 hour job... Then they (the electrician) calls the or sends something to the county to get a electrical permit number... Then you wait wait wait for 4-6 weeks for a electrical permit meanwhile helco comes out and inspects your handywork (that is if you tell them)... So, your electrician calls and says you got your permit... So he calls the same people that he originally sent the permit and says to them that its ready for inspection (after they just sent the electrician a permit in the mail)... hahaha (I'm at this point)...So, they take a week to look at the pole to see if everything is ok... then I guess after they think the pole is ok... They call Helco The company that has already taken pictures and inspected the pole (weeks ago) that the pole is approved for a meter!!! Hahaha!!!

Lastly you wait for helco to come back to plug in the meter... Sheehs, could it be any more stupid? What a WASTE of time and tax payer's money. Oh well...

Thought I'd vent a frustrating process of getting power to a pole...

Hey ericlp it gets even better with the plumbing and building permits.
You just need to go with the flow even if it seems to up hill at times.
Good luck,
Scott

If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it cost when it’s free...now here come the taxes.....

"go with the flow" has a whole different connotation to me these days.

So while Pele only occasionally flows uphill, the permit process specializes in flowing uphill?

And all this just changed about a few years ago to eliminate all the unpermitted structures having anything more than temp power. Years ago it was one step.

OK, I was cleaning up at the lot...

Loaded the truck up with a bunch of crap to take to the dump... Just left the driveway and notice a BRAND NEW rig with Official Hawaii stuff on the side of the door... and State plates... He says he's here to inspect the pole... I say great...

So, I open up the gate, and he drives down to the pole... This is what happens all of ONE MINUTE...

He lifts up the cover on the box... And asks me if there is a fuse in the box!!! I tell him I don't have a screw driver... He says "oh don't worry about it, Bob (the electrical guy that installed it) is a good guy he probably put one in there... So he looks up and down at the pole... and then he points out that the grounding screw that holds the grounding wire to the pole it is lose he says.. and that I should tighten it.

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! I said ok, I can do that... he writes out this small piece of paper and checks the box approved... and hands it to me... I say Thanks...and we have a 5 or ten minute chat talking about his new rig...

The guy was nice and we had a pretty good chat about other things as well... But... I dunno... I guess I was like expecting him to have some tools to break down the box and check everything... Oh well.. He tells me he is going email HELCO and I should have meter in a week or so.

So....... Thought I'd post the latest pretty funny updates...

By the way if anyone wants to check out some pictures...
