I copied this from my Nextdoor feed and thought I'd help get the word out:

MAYOR ROTH TO HOST NINTH TOWN HALL IN PĀHOA ON SEPT. 26

Mayor Mitch Roth is pleased to announce the ninth town hall of his series, "Sustainable Horizons: Mayor Roth's Community Impact Check-in," aimed at providing updates and fostering engagement with communities across Hawaiʻi Island. The event will take place at the William “Billy” Kenoi Park on Tuesday, September 26, from 5-7 p.m.

The town hall series aims to establish an open and transparent dialogue where residents can stay informed about local initiatives, express their concerns, and actively contribute to shaping the future of their respective communities.

The event will begin with Mayor Roth and key cabinet members providing updates on the county's progress and direction during the first half-hour. These updates will be tailored to provide site-specific information relevant to the lower Puna community. The remaining hour and a half will be dedicated to a Q&A session, enabling attendees to directly pose questions to department representatives and receive responses from subject matter experts.

For those unable to attend in person, the town hall will be made available on Mayor Roth's Facebook page (facebook.com/himayormitch) and Nā Leo TV, Channel 55. We encourage all residents to participate and engage in this critical community dialogue.

The upcoming town hall at the William “Billy” Kenoi Park on September 26 is an opportunity for residents to connect with local government, voice their concerns, and contribute to the future of their community."

Thanks - I hadn't heard about this, and I think it's more important than ever to attend.

The Lahaina fire has highlighted how there is no evacuation route in case of fire for lower Puna below the Ainaloa roundabout. In days gone by, Chain of Craters Road was the escape route. For a short time, the part of Railroad Ave. between Kahakai and HPP was opened for the lava flows, but that took time to clear and set up. I don't want to get tangled up about the long-term commuter road that is needed - I am thinking about the people who were burned alive while sitting in their cars trying to escape Lahaina.

Anyone who has sat in the miles long train of cars on the Kea'au - Pahoa should be concerned. Those who live in Pahoa town, Hawaiian Shores, Beaches, Nanewale, Leilani, Ophikau Black Sands, and all others, need to keep pressing about this lack of an emergency evacuation route. A major drought in inevitable - I've been here when not a single drop of rain fell from the beginning of November to the end of April at my home, where I usually average 150" per year. I saw from my lanai fires burning on Kaloli, Maku'u and Hawaiian Acres all in the same day. We should not let the lessons bought so dearly by Lahaina be ignored and forgotten.

Glad to share this info and hope there is a good turnout, but fear even if there is, it will turn into another giant nothing-burger like the recent Lava Zone insurance meeting did, or that the very vocal PGV protesters don't hijack this meeting as they have tried to do at other public events.

Yes, they have concerns and deserve to be heard, but theirs is not the only problem around here, kthx...

There is also (another) "Revitalize Puna" event coming up next month, but I'll wait to put a post up about that later, if no-one beats me to it.
