The Hawaii County Council has entered a new era of accessibility to the public — starting today, council and committee meetings will be streamed live on the county’s website.
The webcast at hawaiicounty.gov will have closed captioning to comply with federal Americans with Disabilities Act mandates. To get to the webcasts, click on “Council meetings” on the left side of the screen. The webcasts of both council and council committee meetings will later be archived on the site, with links to allow the public to jump to specific points in the meeting and to download relevant documents.
“We’re excited to have it start,” County Clerk Stewart Maeda said. He credited Council Chairman Dru Kanuha and former Council Chairman J Yoshimoto for moving the project forward. Yoshimoto had been working on the technology set up prior to leaving office in December and saw it as a legacy he wanted to leave the county.
