You're right K - it's not a ticky tack zoning issue but rather a greater failure to plan. Nobody in their right mind who is encouraging Pahoa to maintain and develop it's "Main Street" vibe would suggest that a noisy, dusty gravel lot with large garbage trucks would be a good idea. Not to mention the increased traffic load on a stretch of road that already has multiple issues (7-11, Black Rock and the Post Office all very close). Add insult to injury that there is a medical clinic next door whose patients no doubt appreciate hearing tons of glass being dumped and loaded into large diesel trucks. The idea to allow this type of business in the block that it is located in is part and parcel of Hilos total inability to envision future growth and as a result to effectively plan for that future growth.
