Lava Flow Meeting Sceduled for Tonight CANCELLED
#1
There has been a last minute cancellation, this morning, of the lava flow meeting that WAS scheduled for this evening at Pahoa HS.

It turns out that the county needs more FEMA information (from the link below: "The County and our partner agencies are meeting with FEMA this morning to discuss the closing of the lava flow incident and there will be many questions asked as to what the implications may be with regards to the various projects and expenses incurred in response to the lava flow threat.") before re-scheduling this meeting (it was announced initially on Tuesday, March 31 & published on-line, on TV & in the newspaper, so I am including this link so others can be informed of the cancellation:

FEMA Not a good term to hear. They dictate flood zones. If they write PUNA into the equivalent of flood zones, Lenders may require the equivalent of flood insurance. Up to now, I believe, there is no officially recognized lava zone map by FEMA.

It is important to stay on this issue to say we already have insurance for lava.

FEMA is already in play to the current tune of $1.7 million, mostly for county clean up work and overtime, but also some small funds for a couple local non-profits. Today is last day to apply. No individual assistance currently available.
