Media Release

Hawaii Island police are investigating an apparent “drive-by” shooting in the Leilani Estates subdivision in Puna late Monday (May 4).

In response to a 10:48 p.m. call Monday, police learned that a 47-year-old woman heard gunshots from the road on the 13-1200 block of Leilani Boulevard followed by the sound of a vehicle driving away in the makai direction. She then discovered a bullet hole in her house, which was occupied by five persons.

Detectives recovered a bullet from inside the home.

The case is being investigated as five counts of first-degree reckless endangering.

Police ask anyone with any information about the incident to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Robert Almeida at 961-2386 or robert.almeida@hawaiicounty.gov.

Why is shooting at a house full people charged as reckless endangering?

How about 5 counts of attempted murder?!

I think it can be upgraded if they find the driver/shooter. For now it could simply be a pig hunter with bad aim if assumptions are to be made.

Reminds me of the Lebowski scene where he asks the cop at the impound if they have any leads...
