Smoking cigarettes raised to age 21 in Hawaii
#11
The 21 restriction on drinking is ridiculous too. Telling adults whether they can drink or not? This isn't Saudi Arabia!
It teaches disrespect for the law because nearly everyone ignores it anyway.

Well, it's the liberal thing to do, control what people say and do. Wait a minute, I thought that was the conservative thing to do, now I'm confused.

I hear you Paul, it reminds me of adults who build a house for themselves without the consent of their keepers and then get harassed and fined for it.

We'll just have to face it, majority in government rules and damn the rights of the people if they aren't in line with the keepers opinion (Constitutional limits of power not applicable). Embrace the nanny state opinion... or be harassed, fined and or jailed.

I read a good article somewhere (HTH?) recently explaining why governments are so quick to crack down on vaping,
even though it's most likely far far safer than smoking. It's because they stand to lose so much in taxes!

By the way, the 21 age limit isn't law yet in Hawaii. I hope the governor won't sign it. Lawmakers should only pass laws that apply to themselves as well.

Fun fact: The age for both drinking and smoking in Japan is 20, the age of adulthood there (or so the internet tells me).

Increasing the drinking age to 21 has created a generation of binge drinkers. Having only sporadic black market access to alcohol they drink drink drink as much as they can, while they can, as often as they can. Elsewhere in the world kids learn to drink in moderation from and with their parents. Here parents find out by seeing their teenage daughters on "Girls Gone Wild" videos how effective raising the drinking age to 21 has been.
