TMT story on PBS News Hour

So then they are sharing the same aloha, regardless of color of their skin by standing on a corner shouting racist, derogatory remarks to the Tourii for their lack of ambition in life? If they are local and cry "what about our cultures and traditions", then why aren't they creating their own job by offering sport fishing expeditions teaching the ancient method of net casting and cliff fishing? Or offering lava tours where if they are using part of the Kings Highway to get there, tell the history of the trail, and the kapus therein. Once at the flow, teach the legends of Pelé, then let it soak into the Tourii as they gaze at the flowing lava? Or stargazing the ancient Hawaiian way, using a piece of Ohia as a pointer to the people that come for your story and knowledge of how the Hawaiian priests worshipped the stars?
If you have a passion for something you can create a job around it. With passion you have knowledge, with passion you have sales skills because you believe it. With that passion, the money will follow because the word will get out that you know your stuff. Get a card reader for your I-phone and be somebody. Make your mark in the world.

In your dream, are you traveling on a one way, or a two way street?

A cul-de-sac. World's longest, even.

Good evening HOTPE.

You did ask a few questions a couple pages back, I apologize for the delay.

No, I do not consider UHH or UH universities to be "higher educations". Less than 30% of the graduating students from Pahoa High go on to college and The dropout rate k-12 at Pahoa may be higher than the college ready rate. jmo

About half of that 30% that do go on to college from Pahoa high complete college and receive a college degree. Yes, That 15% usually attain the higher paying jobs in "this" area. The other 85% that continue to fall through the cracks year after year need more resources and opportunities, many need their culture, traditions, and land to live today. The 15% that make it also need better Quality educational opportunities than what they are getting today. jmo

I use to agree with Woody Allen about the importance of showing up. Times have changed a bit since his day, Today the population is greater and the successful jobs are fewer. Showing up is worth about 10% of success and being prepared, willing and able is worth more than 90%.
Most graduating students from Pahoa High are not prepared for our own college Universities which do rank low themselves. jmo
