Ino was talking about this storm in http://punaweb.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23205

The wind is blowing in the opposite direction from normal. That threatens trees and structures that are usually solid and strong, so risk of damage is greater than same speed winds in the normal direction.

It's quite windy in HA, power's still on.

I'm in lower HPP and didn't experience any power outages today despite some windy conditions, so think the actual outages were only in very specific areas. The front Ino was talking about has reached Kauai with thunderstorms just behind. On Monday it passes over Oahu and, unless it stalls, gets to us Tuesday night, so expect non-trade winds to pick up again.

MK summit winds are 50+ mph tonight and suspect they'll get stronger over the next couple of days.

Wind Advisory
Issued: 3:41 AM HST Feb. 6, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory in effect until 6 PM HST this evening...

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect until 6 PM HST this evening.

* Timing... through 6 PM Monday.

* Winds... southwest winds 20 to 30 mph... with localized gusts up
to 50 mph. The strongest gusts are expected over and downslope
from higher terrain. This includes areas in and around Kailua-
Kona... over and to the northeast of the Kohala Mountains... and
the Kau district east of the Mauna Loa slopes.

* Impacts... winds this strong can result in power
interruptions... down large tree branches... damage weaker
roofs... and make driving difficult. Unsecured loose objects
like tents could be blown around by the wind.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph...
or gusts of at least 50 mph... are expected. Motorists should use
extra caution. If engaged in outdoor activities on Sunday...
secure any loose objects that could be blown around and possibly
injure someone.

It's a little breezy in lower HPP tonight although nothing too extensive - no power outages so far (at least where I am). The Mauna Kea summit is currently experiencing hurricane force winds.
