Hawaii honey bees in Trouble?
#11
a simple low tech hive alteration

If I remember correctly, beekeepers were forced to invent their own solutions while State dithered about granting permission to import the pesticides used to control this problem elsewhere.

Kalakoa, you do not remember correctly!

Varroa Mite introduction was in Oahu 2007:

& this report, with the DOA working with commercial & recreational beekeeping on hive management (including hive destruction or treatment) was published in 2008, along with notations on DOA working to INCREASE treatment options...
IT IS WORTHY TO NOTE THAT THERE WERE BEEKEEPERS THAT WERE RESISTANT TO HIVE MANAGEMENT... THIS IS SOMETHING WE HOPE WILL NOT HAPPEN HERE WITH AFB!
