Well, I have a confession to make. We have decided to purchase a condo on Maui. I feel like I have betrayed myself somewhat. I just love this forum and The Big Island. But my signifigant other was somewhat worried about owning a house from afar. So, after much debate, we are once again the owner of a condo in Kihei. I know this is so different from the dream I had of living in Puna on Ohiki St. in Hawai'ian Parks. But the good news is that our family still owns that piece of land on Ohiki St. So, anything is possible. I still have been lurking on this forum and found that I needed to share this with anyone that might be interested. I have learned a lot about the Big Island on this forum and am very greatful to all the contribute and also to Rob for having it. I will continue to lurk, and if I have something to contribute I will.

Maui is an awesome place brah. They don't say, "Maui no ka oi" for no reason. But why Kihei, was it a matter of price?
I was raised on Maui, and lived there when the island had only one street light..and it was in Wailuku! If you had to move from here, Maui is your best choice. So don't lose any sleep over it, besides, you have made your partner really happy. Isn't that all that really matters these days?
Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else.

Thanks Beachboy. We chose Kihei because we know Kihei. We owned a condo there for 5 yrs. Sold about 3 yrs ago. Also, this is where we can get some money out of the condo through vacation rentals. We did also love Maui and still do. So, all is good.

I also love Maui, or at least the Maui I remember. I havn't made it back there in over 30 years. I don't think I could afford to buy anthing there now. If that's where your wire's heart is that's where you need to be.

I lived in Kihei before Piilani Highway was built, when the only traffic light was on Lipoa and S.Kihei road, by St. Theresa's Church.
Beachboy... Do you say that you lived in Lahaina at one time? If so, do you remember a bar called 'Sly Mongoose?'
Remember:
guri-guri, No Ka Oi sausages, Maui Hot Dogs, Tasty Crust, Sam Sato's, Ma'Chans, Golden Palace.....(sigh)[
