A bit off topic, let me know when Fern Forest gets fiber installed down captains! I'd move there if I could get 2.5 ~ 3 Mb's per sec. Maybe could stream netflix! SD baby!

I checked it out recently and wow, looks like hell. Trees cut off at waist height or so, with no regard to finished appearance. Non professional tree cutters obviously did the work. No evidence of trees cut beyond road way though.
The worst aspect of this butchering is that they've unfortunately multiplied the vectors for rapid ohia death into the area. Apparently, the company wasn't aware of this disease. [!]

Yep, ROD gets into the trees via wounds, even small ones, so with major cut area exposed like this practically all of these are bound to get it. Might as well have cut them down completely, at least then they wouldn't be able to spread it to other trees in the area.

Interesting that some folks keep referring to "butchering" trees.
Kind of like animal rights extremists complaining about hunters "murdering" animals.

Not really. One definition of butcher is "spoil, ruin, mutilate, mangle, mess up, wreck"-which is a perfect use of the word in this case. I have no problem with trees being cleared in a right of way for legitimate purposes, but when it's done in an ugly and unwittingly harmful way, then ya-it's a butcher job.

not only was it a "butcher " job it left a huge fire hazard behind dry brush , trees chopped up left laying on the ground . and in some areas well into private property.
it's not being an extremist, I have no problem with clearing the wire/lines but I do have a problem with the lack of respect that Hawaiian telcom used with the slash/chop/drop leave it lay fire hazard, unsightly debris left behind . the same goes for killing pigs leaving the dead carcass on the road to rot , which just happened again 2 days ago . total lack of respect for residents and animal.

I do think professional tree trimmer and non professionals for that matter should be taking some serious precautions to limit spread of disease since there is a strong likelihood of vectoring disease.
