we have North Carolina sending in 10 fire/disaster dudes to help out with the lava thing. We personally have a south eastern sailor who doesn't even live here, consistently providing his input on Kilauea! I'm glad people care about our island, we frequently get overshadowed by Oahu, Maui, and sometimes even Kaua'i. I wonder about Kaua'i sometimes, I wonder if they have it harder than Puna. No active volcano over there, but then again, they get hammered by hurricanes when we tend not to.
Off topic, but as an aside, I accept the anti-construction efforts that have left Ka'u so barren of shopping and jobs and thus population. I wouldn't be able to live here at all if it wasn't for that, look at Kohala, Waimea, Kona, and Oahu and how absurdly expensive they are. That's also where the majority of the development is.
Aloha
