Kona dry during Lane?

If it had been a bit further out west, Kona would've had what Hilo got, magical mountains notwithstanding.

Paul - I'm not sure that's correct. In order for the west side of the island to have got the same rainfall amounts as the east side got, you would have needed south-westerly winds or westerlies. I think you would have only got that if Lane had passed much closer and moved much farther north than it did.

Yes, I think you're right. By being on the west side I suppose Kona does get more protection than Hilo thanks to the counter-clockwise movement.
They won't get a good soaking until the hurricane is further north, in which case it's often weaker.
