vacation rentals (still)
#41
We lost our two VR’s in Vacationland to the Lava. One house we bought and renovated the other we bought land and built. We employed builders, electrician’s, plumbers...We employed a local VR manager, house cleaner, handyman, and landscaper. We paid taxes, utilities, and for many other services that provided jobs to locals. We Have always felt part of the solution not part of the problem.

It’s the ones with the money that provide the jobs.....

I wonder how much clout the American Hotel & Lodging Association, the Asian American Hotel Owners Association and the U.S. Travel Association,( all lobbyists for their own benefit) has in Hawaii. (from the article)...

"With Airbnb continuing to grow—it reached a $31 billion valuation in March and turned profitable in 2016—there is little doubt that AHLA will continue to throw its funding toward fighting Airbnb and others like it, both through regulatory efforts at every level of the government and through studies that attempt to outline the impact of short-term rentals."

Why can't we demand to know how much hotel interests have paid to each candidate and demand the ag zoning regulations for rental property be amended OR vote them out. Period. Too asinine to consider, with HI only being good for tourism, and now with their latest grab, what, good for nothing?
